Simple Honesty

Trying to figure out what you want to say in a given movement can be a challenge. So that’s when I take a deep breath, and inhale the smells and sounds that surround me, including the birds singing. I know it sounds like a cliche, but taking a deep breath in, reset your senses, can reset you.

I believe that photography is a personal artistic expression. We were all beginners at one time, and being honest about our journey and experiences will help others grow and develop. If they take the opportunity to slow down and time to learn. I’ve had some great instructors who still remind me to slow down and focus. It’s about being honest with myself and the image I want to capture.

As I was looking at my images this morning, I was drawn to this image. When I first say this image, the word honesty came to mind.

I can tell by looking at my images if my mind was distracted. If its distracted, its due to my own fears. It could be a thought of “my image will never be as good as others.” or “ohh I better hurry up, before the light goes!” I could allow my fears to take center stage of my mind, instead of using my fears to encourage me and challenge me. I’m being honest. We all have fears, moments of doubts, when we are behind the camera. Some are rational, some are not. A fear can become a shadow. It can follow you where ever you go. But sometimes, it can lurk out from the darkness to push you to do something you did not think you could do. This is when you take your fear, and turn it into courage.

As I have said before, time is the most precious gift we have to give. Don’t be dragged by dogma. Be honest with yourself and have the courage to live the life you want. Silence out the noise, the voices of others, and shush that voice inside that says “what if you can’t do it?”. Start thinking, “How awesome will it be when I do accomplish it?” Have the courage to follow your heart, intuition and dreams. Be honest with yourself!

This image was taken near Lancaster Pennsylvania. This area is beautiful with many great locations.
